Summary
Argues that the 'family preservation'-based child protection policies employed across Australia have failed because the policies used protected families not children. The author argues that the children of these families are in fact being abused by the system and left with poor long-term outcomes and intergenerational disadvantage. The author believes that adoption of children who have no real chance of returning to families should be used. Thus giving the child the long-term stability thay need and are not getting in the current system. This author believes that child protection workers need to stop considering the family as a priority and start considering the child as their priority
