Summary
Fluid transportation is a common and essential operation in the food industry. Fluids must overcome the resistance to motion to flow and resulting friction losses. Friction factor correlations were developed to estimate friction losses. However, most of these correlations are meant for Newtonian fluids; while most food products are non-Newtonian fluids. Due to complexities of their rheological properties, these correlations were not suitable for non-Newtonian fluid. The original aim of this project is to assess selected friction factor correlations that are developed for non-Newtonian fluids, based on their usefulness and accuracy. TicaloseR CMC solutions were used as non-Newtonian samples; while, RO water, sugar syrup, corn syrups were used as Newtonian samples--Abstract
